On Perception
I decided to round out my triptych of zines with this look into perception.
I wrote and designed each page, aiming for a chant-like, transendent text that was informative, inspiring, and haunting. Each chapter reads like a Truism; they cannot be denied and require further exploration.
As an artist and former art student, the concept of perception has been of longstanding interest to me. It’s something that is ever-changing, and I especially find it difficult to measure in today’s digital landscape. I’m not sure why, but an image that has stuck with me from my undergrad years is a sort of diagram on perception. It essentially outlined this:
Reality = seeing + perceiving
I aimed to tackle the understanding of perception from multiple perspectives, and, truth be told, it left me feeling both inspired and disillusioned. There are ideas, thoughts, experiments, and references that both validate and discredit my own perception of the self, of the world, and of art. As with Archetypes and Memory, Perception is both personal and universal, present and fleeting.
This was a passion project, combining a few different interests of mine: editorial design, which I want to do more of, and writing, which I have been doing more of. I feel I need to note that I used free images sourced from Unsplash, fonts from Pangram Pangram, and ChatGPT to help source factual information and edit errors.
